Thaumaturgy
Few Kindred are able to practice the rigorous discipline of Thaumaturgy. This is the practice of blood magic, and is largely the province of the Tremere Clan, who created it and guard its secrets jealously.
This magic is directly descended from the theories and practices of the Order of Hermes, a medieval order of magi. While few humans know ought of blood magic, this art has been developed for centuries by the Tremere to take advantage of their vampiric strengths. Tremere Thaumaturgy is despised and feared by most mortal wizards.
Thaumaturgy also allows the wielder to use rituals, as well as a number of different paths: the Lure of Flames, Movement of the Mind, and Weather Control. These are discussed in the same section as Tremere Rituals. Tremere rituals will be covered in a later section.
Thaumaturgy Paths
Paths define the types of magic a vampire can perform. A vampire typically learns his primary path from his sire, though it is not unknown for some vampires to study under many different tutors and learn all their secrets.
As mentioned before, the first path a character learns is considered her primary path and increases automatically as the character advances in the Discipline itself. Secondary paths may be learned once the character has acquired two or more dots in her primary path, and they must be raised separately with experience points. Furthermore, a character's rating in her Discipline must always be at least one dot higher than any of her paths until she has mastered her Discipline. Once the character has achieved mastery of the fifth level of her Discipline, paths may be increased to that level.
The first path learnt is usually the path of blood.
